Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee is set to miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury, with Ruben Amorim set to address the severity of the injury on Wednesday.

Zirkzee limped off in the second half of Sunday’s 4-1 defeat at Newcastle. And is likely to be out for several weeks.

His injury comes just days before United face Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final. Which could be the deciding match of the Red Devils’ season.

The Dutch forward, who joined from Bologna for £36.5m in the summer, has scored seven goals this season. Including away against Real Sociedad and away at Lyon in the Europa League.

Zirkzee joins Lisandro Martinez in missing the rest of the season. But Amad Diallo could yet return from ankle ligament damage sustained in February.

Amorim said Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven and Toby Collyer remain out for Thursday’s return leg against Lyon, as does Jonny Evans despite training with the group on the eve of the game.
