SEO teams use proxies to see a page the way a different network sees it, and to crawl properties they are allowed to crawl. That is monitoring, not a way around a login. The crawler needs the same four fields as any other client.
Screaming Frog, the honest path
- File → Settings → Proxy.
- Host and port from the vendor access parameters. Bright Data’s documented superproxy host is one example. Confirm the live values in the dashboard.
- Username and password when the crawler prompts. Those are zone credentials, not your email login.
- Restart the crawler. Fetch one URL you are allowed to fetch. Check the response origin.
Which type
If the site accepts a hosting ASN, a datacenter or ISP list is enough and cheaper per address. If it does not, residential is the meter, and you pay gigabytes. A full site crawl with images enabled will eat a pack. Turn images off if you only needed HTML.
What we will not help with
Crawling a site that forbids it, ignoring robots.txt on a property you do not control, or using the crawler to walk a paywall. If the job is competitive SERP checks, stay on public results and the vendor’s documented integration.
Orange “Open” buttons can be affiliate. They do not change the editorial order. Confirm the live rate before you pay.
